The Mission

Clare’s journey is one of determination, resilience, and advocacy. She is set to become the first person to traverse the Munda Biddi Trail—the world’s longest off-road cycling route—using a wheelchair. Stretching over 1,070 km through the stunning forests, hills, and coastal plains of Western Australia, the trail is renowned for its challenging terrain and breathtaking scenery.
This journey is about more than completing a trail. Clare aims to raise awareness and funds for multiple sclerosis (MS), a condition that affects millions worldwide, including Clare herself. By taking on this unprecedented challenge, she hopes to show that living with MS doesn’t mean giving up on adventure, exploration, or personal goals.
Clare’s mission also highlights the importance of accessibility in outdoor pursuits. Her story serves as a reminder of the barriers that exist in the natural world for people with mobility impairments and the power of innovation to break down those barriers.
The Technology

Key to Clare’s success is The Rig, a purpose-built off-road wheelchair designed for adventure. Created by the team at Not A Wheelchair, it combines speed, durability, and versatility to take on tough trails like the Munda Biddi.
Weighing 59 kg and powered by a 1,000-watt motor, the Rig features a fully electric drive system allowing smooth, quiet operation. It can reach a top speed of 19 km/h and a range of 16–32 km on a single charge, making it ideal for navigating the rugged landscapes of Western Australia. With adjustable seat and handlebars, a ground clearance of 18 cm, and robust off-road tyres, the Rig is designed to handle everything from steep inclines to rocky outcrops.
This cutting-edge technology enables Clare to tackle the trail independently and confidently, proving that adventure can be for everyone. The support of Not a Wheelchair in providing this incredible device underscores the importance of innovation in creating opportunities for people with mobility challenges.
